Aquatic Academia

I wake up in the early morning and lick the dew off my lips.
Your body, still asleep; both arms holding me.
In the summer, I don’t mind your slick or sweat – let the moon
throw diamonds onto us where the light catches
and breaks apart, rolling down the curve of my hip
to puddle in the mattress dip
like a midnight ocean I want to swim.
I have practiced diving in; holding my breath
when we kiss; I have sailed cups like tiny boats
in the sudsy water of my kitchen sink.
I know how to hold onto this.
