The Scientific Echo Track

Hypothesis:
Given life and death, if your heart fills itself
to the brim with a person — if they light all
the shadows in its darkest parts — can they
ever really be lost to you?

Prediction:
If you love someone hard enough, there’s not
much death can do to touch that.

Experiment:
Love someone. Spend years with them so
long they seem like their own lifetimes. Then
one day, when you’re eighteen, watch them
die. Watch their lips turn blue. Learn the
breathing, the not breathing, and the terrible
silence of it all. Open your palms. Let them
go.

Conclusion:
Your hands are an echo of her hands. She
still shows up in your dreams as a raven
seven years later. Sometimes her laugh
is a track on an old episode of I Love Lucy.
If you love someone hard enough, there’s
not much death can do to touch that.
