Not Nineteen

You’re not nineteen
anymore.
You let it go.

The angry boys
are still
angry,
the sad girls
are still
sad,

but there’s
no more
cigarettes.

No more
library editions.

No more blood
on the floor.

Leave the
madness for
the young ones.

For the
tough ones.

For the
indestructible
ones.

You couldn’t stomach
the parties anymore.
Couldn’t take the
despair, can’t handle
the alcohol.

Let the angry
boys stay angry,
let the sad girls
stay sad.

You’re not nineteen
anymore.

It’s okay to
laugh.
